I feel that the spine of my capstone really resonates more with the sociological aspects of dance forms. We are always revisiting this concept of what dance is, and how can we define dance. At the end of the day, all forms of movement can really be considered dance. I personally enjoy choreographing with my arms and epaulement. There are a couple sections in my capstone in which all I am doing is arm movement. A century ago, that might have not been considered dance. A more modern mindset to have is that expression is art and art is dance, and I am really trying to express something in my piece.

From a political point of view, their is a huge push for the advocacy of mental health and releasement of societal stigmas. My capstone is about letting go, and I feel that we are often not told to do this. The societal mindset is to hold on and push forward, even to almost identify with these emotions. We are taught that school, money, and our peers are more important than what we need to do for my own mental health.

This prompt also made me think of my experiences in my current Acting class in which we are learning Alexander technique. There is a place in which expression and art come from, and it is from a place of alignment and centering. Body language and posture can dictate how art is being expressed.
